WebJan 1, 2011 · Sandmeyer’s [ 3] conversion of aryl diazonium salts to halobenzenes in 1884 was followed by the Pschorr [ 4] cyclization in 1896 and biaryl syntheses by Gomberg and Bachmann [ 5] in 1924. As the last of the four reactions, the Meerwein arylation appeared in the literature in the year 1939 [ 6 ].
