Web6 mrt. 2024 · Despite being a secret language — written and read only by women — Nüshu has managed to survive and has been portrayed in documentaries, books and even won the Guinness World Record for “the most gender specific language.” The last woman who knew, wrote and read the language, Yang Huanyi, died in 2004. The reason why the language was written in secrecy was because at the time the world was largely invisible to men. Women were neither understood nor respected.
