If the engine block is cast as a 427 there will be room to overbore it, w/o risk of running out of wall thickness. You can also make a BBC 427 out of a 454 block by using a 396/402/427 (3.76" stroke) crank.

When I look that number up, that is supposed to be the same casting used in '66 for a 427 2 bolt. Not only can those blocks safely be bored to build a 427, they can be bored over size after that. It is particularly common with the early blocks that did not have a groove in the rear cam bearing bore.
